Okay, so... I am a rather big fan of the twilight series, and ever since I saw the film I thought it would be good if I wrote a reveiw of the film, whilst comparing it to the book at the same time. So, here it goes... By the way, I must say that this will be my first ever reveiw of any kind, apart from the one time in year 4 when we had to do one, but that to my mind that doesn't really count. So, basically what I trying to say is that if it is perhaps obviously unprofessional and clearly done by an amateur, than I do apoligise, but at least you couldn't say that I didn't warn you.
It is safe to say that Twilight, with all it's international fame and glory, was both a widely an anticipated event, as well being widely feared, as many fans felt shudders as they veiwed who were to play the main characters. Many infamous critics too, I beleive, dreaded the arrival of this film, becuase there was a sense that its veiwing figures and DVD sales would shoot through the roof due to the books fame and favouritism alone, and not due to the quality of the film. As a result, the film would overshadow any originally good and blockbuster-worthy film that had the unfortunate misendeavour to be released during Twilight's fans raids upon the cinemas.
As a fan, I myself was extremly excited about the release of it, after the pure chance that I stumbled upon the news during a random wander upon the internet. Unlike many others, though, I did not turn bitter aginst the film company purely due to the choice of actors that were chosen to play the parts. In the run-up to the film's release, there were plenty of comments made on sites from people across the globe, swearing that they would not go to see the film purely due to the choice of actors or a pointless overwhelming fear that the film would simply not live up to their desires. To these people, I say; stop being so pathetic! Why don't you see the film anyway, because it might just surprise you and completely fufill your expectations.
No, down to the film itself. In my opinion, it stay relatively true to the books, although some key scenes were missing, although this was made up for in a few small, made-up scenes that were added into the film. As well as this, it was missing the crucial sarcastic humour and little conversations between Edawrd and Bella that open up their characters and what amde the books so interesting and therefore such a success. Plus, the characters just did not have enough room to properly establish and express themselves in the small space that was the running time of the movie, espeacially Carlisle's character, because his history is just not there, so those who havent read the books would not know that he was acctually a Londoner and other 400 years old. Overall with the bad points, the film was just rushed too much, there wasnt enough substance of backstory to the film, it didn't register the fact of how the characters had grown to that point. However, I do recognise the fact that the film did have have that much money, as the film company just wasnt widely enough known. And the last bad point, the CGI. The vampires super-speed was shown by blurred line running behind the character whenever they ran, which was cheap and not effective. Once again however, I register the fact that the company did not have that much money.
There were many good points for this film, firstly how the characters were shown. The acting was excellent. and the costumes were just perfect, espeacially for the Cullens, because each character had their own style of costume which fitted their characters. Also, the The place was also displayed extremely well, as the weather of Forks in the film matched the weather of Forks in the book superbly. The parts that were added in worked well, and no complaints should be made about that. The film also moved along at a fast pace, which did, however assit greatly to films overwhelming feel of rushness, but it left out all the nitty-gritty details which the non-readers of the book would have been bored by, but were the exact things that we, the readers, had been looking out for. As for Robert Pattinson, I am thrilled that a British actor was allowed into this domain of American film. Maybe that is why many young American teens felt repulsed at the company's casting decision? Hmm....
In conclusion, the film really is far better than the book, so if you have seen the film but have not yet read it, I fully adivse that you do so, because, quite simply, you just don't know what your missing. Again, I apoligise that this reveiw may not have been up to top-critic standards, but hey, a girl can only do her best! I shall be completely honest, because halfway through the good points, I completely lost inspiration for my words, but I can assure you that as a film, it is very good, putting some dodgy CGI effects out of the way. The actors, also, were performing at their highest standards.
Untill my next review, as my friend CLibra would say : Ciao!
