Here is a poem about war that I wrote for a local poetry competiton that my school was involved in. Amazingly, I was one of the winners and I won £20's worth of book vouchers!!! (I was soo happy).
Anyway, I thought I would post it so that you could read it for yourselves. Feel free to comment if you wish!!
War Poem
Disgusting smells of perspiration and the bloody carnage
Men’s screams pierce our hearts
Our wives and children, left at home
With no knowledge of our suffering
We sit here like sitting ducks waiting for a storm to fade
We fight for our country
For glory, and wealth
Dreams of peace rule our minds
And yet, here we are,
Congealed in filth, damp and foul
Will we ever see our homes again?
We commit to paper the letters,
Well, we try
With hands ice bound and thoughts in mind
It’s hard to even draw a line
Darkness lies in front, we cannot see behind
Nothing is known of the foe ahead
Are they like us? With loves and wives back in their old lives?
So much for love and grace,
We are stuck here till the end of this race.
